Story of the Home
''I am always on the lookout for interesting properties in the best parts of London. There are certain features a property must have to be in the running, such as well-proportioned rooms, nice views, parking and outside space. When I see something with all these key features I get quite excited. Even though I am a developer it is very important for me to see myself living there otherwise I do not consider it.
When I initially viewed Monckton Court, I was impressed with the entrance to the building and the mature communal gardens. The apartment itself needed my imagination as it was completely unmodernised.
The refurbishment took 8 months to complete. The kitchen was a big job, even for a professional, as we removed a wall to really open the space. The appliances are Miele and the Carrerra marble work tops finish the kitchen off perfectly.
In the bathrooms we used Statuario marble tiles, Crosswater taps and Duravit sanitary ware. All high quality and hard wearing.
I wanted to keep an entrance to the apartment as I do not like walking straight into a reception room. However, light was an issue as the front floor is located in an internal space. My architect looked at various options, we decided to go with Perla Crittal doors which are impressive and give the apartment a modern unique feel.Â
My aim was to create a home that is both modern and sustainable for years to come. The apartment also comes with a private garage and plenty of parking for both residents and visitors, very unusual in London.
The management of the building is extremely organised and professional. The concierge is called Monolo, he has been working on-site since 1987 and knows everything there is to know about the area, he is very friendly and helpful.
The area is very quiet, every street seems to be tree lined and Holland Park is only a short stroll, it’s a real sanctuary away from busy London life. You are spoilt for choice with regards to restaurants, you can either stay local at my favourite Julies a Holland Park institution. Or take a short walk towards Notting Hill and stop off at The Hillgate for the best Sunday lunch in town.
Commuting is very easy, there are various stations nearby including Kensington Olympia, Shepherds Bush and High Street Kensington all providing quick access in various directions cross the city.''
