Story of the Home
”Independent Place is a unique development – right in the middle of Hackney, its very quiet and secluded with a lovely community and sense of space.
It’s owned by the leaseholders (Share of freehold), and we make decisions via a board of directors, so the people that live here decide how the development is run.
There is one car parking space per property, plus ample of visitor spaces that tend to sit empty. We are currently in the process of increasing the amount of secure bike storage on the estate.
I love open plan living, the large rooms and high ceilings make the apartment a lovely place to spend time. There is also plenty of storage space.
There are lots of parks nearby, the closest is Hackney Downs which is just a few minutes’ walk. Dalston is a fantastic place, and it keeps getting better.
The Overground means that getting into the centre of town is incredibly quick, but due to the central location I mostly cycle everywhere.
Locally there are a huge range of restaurants, coffee shops and bars, the area has a buzzing atmosphere that many of our friends compare to New York.
Having a giant Sainsburys and an M&S food hall a short stroll away is very handy, but the lovely thing about Dalston is all the independent traders.
The Dusty Knuckle Bakery, tucked away down a lane near Dalston Junction, makes fabulous bread and is a lovely social enterprise as well.
Look around and you can also find independent breweries in shipping containers, trendy neighbourhood restaurants, community gardens, rooftop bars and much more. The famous Ridley Road market is just down the road too.”
