Story of the Home

I viewed at least a dozen properties and was searching for around nine months before I found The Otto.

When entering the apartment, the striking view immediately hits you, the floor to ceiling windows frame the central London skyline.

The main living area works perfectly as a central hub for the home, and it opens onto a south facing balcony. In the spring and summer months, opening the doors to the balcony creates an extension to the living room and it’s a wonderful space to entertain friends and watch the sun set over London.

The development was completed in 2019, so it is in great condition, I made some improvements to the apartment and installed large, bespoke fitted wardrobes in the main bedroom (the second bedroom already has them) and high-quality blackout blinds in both bedrooms.

The onsite concierge team are extremely friendly, and couldn’t be more helpful, they assist with deliveries, access for workmen and keep the building extremely secure.

The immediate access to such beautiful green space at Hackney Downs was another special feature that resonated with me. There is a strong sense of community – in both the building and the local area – that feels tangible, and has been so important during the pandemic.

Having lived across different parts of London over the last decade, I have never lived in an area with such a diverse and eclectic range of shops and restaurants on my doorstep. The list of local favourites is getting increasingly long, but some real gems include P Franco, the legendary Mangal II, Lucky & Joy and the recently Michelin-starred Casa Fofo on the other side of the park.

Casey’s opened around a year ago on Lower Clapton Street and serves the best sourdough in London. Blok is also a five-minute walk away and is one of the best gyms and exercise studios in London.

I would never tire of seeing the London skyline when I wake up every morning and seeing the lights of the City of London and The Shard glimmer during nightfall.
