Story of the Home

“We were drawn to the fact that this house was effectively a box we could turn into something incredible. We loved the light, the planting in the two gardens and the brilliant location.

We moved back from Laurel Canyon in LA and wanted to keep the airy, open plan vibe and the feeling of cool concrete beneath one’s feet that we had out there.

You can’t replicate the LA light or weather, but this house has the California feel that time is on your side.

The daylight in here is incredibly uplifting and then at night it’s very cosy, especially in winter. The interior has a nostalgic 70’s glow, with lovely pools of light gently picking out the rich colours of the wood panelling and fabrics.

The kitchen window, the way it’s framed at the far end of the room, suggests acres of greenery outside and again the strong sense of nature coming into the house and vice versa was designed with our California experience in mind. You open the bedroom curtain on to a mature London Plane and feel like you’re in a tree house.

We have dinners with people in the front and back gardens because those spaces are both so private. This house is a really good excuse not to leave home.

We gutted the place from top to bottom. Everything other than the brickwork is brand new.
Most of the furniture is bespoke and built in. We planned for eight months before building started, months of wearing headsets and walking around a virtual version of the designs.

The house was ingeniously planned and designed by Louis Hagen Hall of architects, Studio Hagan Hall. We purposefully worked with an architect who shared our belief that a great house feels like home because it suits your day- to-day life – everything has a place and is laid out to make things easy.

We are both musicians and our fully sound proofed and air-conditioned recording studio is on the bottom floor of the house. It has a bathroom and independent garden access, so that it could be a private self-contained flat.

There’s enormous potential income from Airbnb and we have ourselves hired the house out for film and photography shoots.

The green spaces of Primrose Hill and Regents Park are our backyard and being able to walk through them to Soho and the West End is phenomenal.”
